When I was first thinking about how to start a blog, I found it difficult to take that first step.

There are so many options out there and how do you know what is the best route for your blog?

Should you start by picking a niche or buying a domain name? How can you make sure that you have everything ready before starting your blog?

In this post, we’ll walk through how I started my own personal blog from scratch.

Table of Contents

I started a blog when I was still in college. My reason was that I wanted additional income for my pocket money. In this article, I will share my experiences

1. Find your reason to start a blog.

You might be thinking, how will I find the reason to start a blog? Well there are many reasons. But you need to ask yourself what’s your purpose in blogging and how can it add value for other people? For example:

You’re an entrepreneur who wants to share knowledge or drive more lead or sales to your business.

You have a hobby and want to find people who share your interest and

You are a blogger for profit and want to grow an audience which will make you more money.

What’s important is that you have something in mind when starting out because it’ll be easier to keep going if you know how blogging can help fulfill your needs.

2. Finding your niche.

If you already have an idea in mind , then that’s great! If not, how about you think of your own passions and things you’re into? Think how many people would be interested in reading something like what you enjoy doing.

For me I’m passionate about digital marketing, so this is the niche I have found to blog on a regular basis which will help grow my audience.

If you’re not sure how to choose a blog topic, try looking at what interests or excites you. What are your hobbies? Reading about them and writing reviews could be an interesting niche for a foodie blogger who also likes photography!

3. Choosing the blogging platform.

There are many type of blogging platform in the market. One of them is WordPress. WordPress is a popular blogging platform that has over 60 million blogs on their website and it’s how I blogged for the past few years.

But there are also other platforms like Blogger, Medium or Tumblr which can be used to create your own blog as well! Whether you’re just starting out or if you have

There are pros and cons regarding the platform you choose, but ultimately it is up to you how your blog will be set up.

What are the benefits of using WordPress?

There are two type of WordPress blog platform. The first is free hosted (free blog) and the second is self hosted. The free hosted doesn’t require you to buy domain or hosting, but it is not as good and secure as the second option because when your blog is live, there are a advertising banner on it.

The second type of WordPress blog platform (self-hosted) provides more benefits like how much traffic your blog gets will depend on how many people are reading it. but you need spend certain amount of money for domain name and web hosting. Basically, the price for domain name is around $10 a year and $10 a month for web hosting.

I personally have a domain name from namechap.com and for the web hosting I use a service from hostgator.com

What are the cons of using self hosted WordPress blog?

The cons of using self hosted WordPress blog is that you need to learn technical skills, such as how to connect your web hosting and your domain name, install the WordPress software, set up WordPress plugins, choose a wordpress theme, configure Google Analytics etc.

Should I start my blog on WordPress?

If you’re new to blogging, WordPress is a good option for you. I started my blog with it and it has never given me any trouble—you can also choose premade templates from the site that are free or if not they might only price $20-30 so your blog will have an aesthetic from day one.

4 Choose your domain name and buy a hosting.

If you already have picked your blog topic, it is time to choose your domain name.

A domain name is how people find your blog and it’s how you can communicate a unique message. It should be concise, memorable, and easy to spell.

If the URL for our foodie blogger was yummyfoodblogger.com or something along those lines, that would not work well because the person searching may have trouble spelling out

Buy a hosting service.

A hosting service is how your blog’s content is saved and accessed by the internet. You may have heard of free blogging services, but this will not be enough to store all of your files or provide you with adequate bandwidth for readers (many people are looking at one single post on a page).

You can either buy a monthly package

Install WordPress platform from your hosting cpanel dashboard. the process is easy to do.

You can also get a WordPress hosting site, which will allow you to customize your blog how much space and bandwidth for how long of time

Install the Plugins that work best with your niche. Writing consistently is important because it shows Google that this blog is active and fresh content should rank higher than sites like yours who have not

5. Designing your blog.

There are many free choices of template for your to choose from how you want your blog to look.

There are many sites that offer free templates, but the best place I have found is Template Monster .

The first thing you will need to do on this site is register an account (if you don’t already have one). Then click “add template” and a new page with all.

Also, there is a paid option to chose from that is usually a lot more expensive than the free templates, but has many more features.

An important thing to note about how you want your blog to look is how much time and effort do you want to put into it?

Some are very simple and does not take any work at all (in which case I would suggest using

6. Creating content for your blog.

Content creation for you blog is the most important aspect of how to blog.

If you are a new blogger, then the only content you will have is your own personal experience or knowledge and it should be created in a way that is interesting for others to read about too.

One way of doing this is by writing about how-to’s so people can benefit from what you.

There are other option on creating content for your blog. You can buy content writing from other people who specialize in it too.

And the last option is how to write about your own personal experience and knowledge without sounding like you’re bragging or talking down on others, that way readers of other communities will want to read what you have written for them.

This can be done by simply writing how you felt during a certain situation with

7. Promote your content.

There are several methods to promote your blog. my favourite is to share it on Facebook groups that you are following also like to use the Twitter app and retweet as many of my own posts that I can.

You could also send your blog post link in an email, but make sure you include a short description so people know how it’s relevant to them before they click on it.

The other way is by doing interviews or guest blogs for bigger bloggers who

you can also tell my friends and family how to find the content I was just a part of writing, this will help me feel like I am not alone in how great or terrible that blog post was for people who are reading it too.

You can always make sure your posts have important SEO keywords so

8. Engaging readers with social media and email marketing campaigns .

Create you first social media channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

You can let your social media followers know how often they should expect to hear from you by creating a publishing schedule in an app like Hootsuite or Buffer

The idea is that for each post you create, you have to share it to your social media channels and also send an email to your subscribers

This will help you build a following and grow the number of people who are reading what you had just written.

Doing this for each post that you publish, can be time consuming if it is not scheduled properly because one hour on social media or with emails costs around four hours total when all totaled.

In the case of many bloggers, monetizing their blog is how they make a living. It can be done through affiliate links (providing commissions to someone else’s product and if readers buy), ads on your site, or sponsored posts for companies who are willing to pay you.

Please note that Google has strict guidelines against using spammy

10 . Growing an engaged community on social media platforms.

When you have certain number of follower on your social media channel , it will be easier to grow your audience and how often you are seeing brand awareness.

You have to post engaged content for your social media follower to stay engaged.

Don’t post too frequently or infrequently, post often enough to maintain a high level of engagement but not so much that people stop following you

Some social media platforms are better for some purposes than others- Facebook is great for connecting with friends and family members on your personal profile; Twitter is all about short messages called tweets

11 . Starting a podcast or YouTube channel.

A podcast or youtube channel is a great way to increase your reach.

However, it takes research and planning in order to make your time worthwhile.

You need an idea for the content of the podcast or youtube channel that is unique enough so people will want to subscribe or watch.

I recommend using Buzzfeed’s “How To” Guide as well as Youtube Creator.

12. Making money from blogging without relying on advertising.

The most popular way to make money from blogging without relying on advertising is through affiliate marketing.

A blogger can get paid a commission for recommending products or services and the company will pay them based on how many people they recommend it too- there are different levels of getting paid depending how much you sell, how often you blog about specific products, etc.

13 . Tips for keeping up with it all.

First, always keep creating engaged content in your niche, stay up-to-date on the latest news and trends in that industry.

Second, I use Buffer for scheduling posts at specific times throughout the day so they are sent out when people might be reading them and not get buried by.

Third, Automate all your blogging process. if you have generate some income from your blog, you can hire a virtual assistant. There are cheap option to hire a virtual assistant from third-world countries such as The Philippine.

14 . How to be successful as a blogger.

One of the first things I suggest is always coming up with new ideas, so you don’t get bored and stop blogging altogether. Second, promote your blog everywhere possible- on social media outlets like Twitter or Facebook for example– but also in person! Go to tradeshows where many.

15. Why you should keep blogging after reaching success

Yes, finally you are reaching your goal of success, but how about keep blogging and give a chance to others who want it also. After all you have learned from your great experience with the blog so why not share it!

16. Blogging is hard work but worth it in the end!.

Your blog is going to take a lot of time and effort. You’re going to be sitting at your computer for hours on end, trying desperately not to procrastinate with how many tasks you could get done if you weren’t blogging. But after all that hard work, it’s worth it in the end because now you have an amazing.

17. Final words of wisdom from this veteran blogger.

Keep motivated and don’t give up.

If you find it hard to keep motivated, just think about how far you’ve come so far and how your blog has helped others reach their goals, too. You can do this!
